Tournament Rules

Tournament Operating Channel & Start Times

The tournament-operating channel will be channel 08; the backup channel will be channel 78. Any mechanical problems or breakdowns should be reported to Findlay as soon as possible.

All boats are requested to monitor 08 from 8:15-8:45 am for the start each day. The last hour on Saturday, boats in contention for the top three spots should call in all catches from 1:00-2:30 pm.

This is a team event by boat with trophies for both charter and open fisherman winning boats. Fishing is for two days; Friday, April 22nd
and Saturday, April 23rd. Boats depart the dock from Opal Key Marina, A&B Marina, Galleon Marina, Key West Bight Marina, Charterboat Row Marina, Garrison Bight Marina, Hurricane Hole Marina, Land’s End Marina, or the Oceans Edge Marina between 7:45-8:00 am returning to the dock at 4:00 pm Friday and 3:00 pm Saturday.

Fishing will commence each day with lines in the water announced at 8:30 am on Channel 08 and will terminate each day with lines out of the water announced at 3:30 pm on Friday and 2:30 pm on Saturday, also on Channel 08. Fish hooked at the time of lines out of the water may be fought until boated or released and will score the predetermined number of points.

Scoring Extra Points

To score an extra 20 points on Friday and 40 points on Saturday, digital photographs must be taken of one or more team anglers in front of the tournament flag flying on the boat each day.

High-resolution digital photos of your day at sea should also be taken and uploaded to the link below.

Largest Category Winners Determined by Fish Weight

The Largest Fish Category Trophy Winners will be determined by weight i.e., heaviest fish wins.

The weight of Billfish, Sharks, Amberjack, Permit, Tarpon, and Barracuda should be estimated, and fish should be released. If required by law, Grouper and Red Snapper should be released.

The Hayden Blaylock Key West Challenge presented by Sunshine Gasoline Distributors Trophy Winner will be determined by points as shown in the table below. There are 15 eligible species of fish that will score points. Each fish caught will be awarded points in accordance with the following list. Bonus points are awarded for excellent catches.

On each boat, a maximum of three fish of each species (3 under 20# and 3 over 20# for dolphin) each day will be awarded points. All fish caught on day two score double points. Bonus points do not double. To accommodate boats who encounter good conditions for certain species, each boat may count 2 extra fish each day in addition to the 3 fish per species. The 2nd fish may be of the same species or different species. For example, you could count 4 sailfish and 4 dolphins under 20#, and then if you caught the 5th sailfish, you could count that and revert to 3 dolphins. The boat with the most points wins. All releases are eligible. Ask your captain to be accurate with weight estimates.

The Hayden Blaylock Key West Challenge presented by Sunshine Gasoline Distributors will award: First, Second, and Third Place Teams; Sportsmanship Awards for Billfish Releases; Comeback Award; Heaviest Fish Awards, and Largest Fish in the Tournament.
